I know that when we think of Valentine’s Day we typically think of flowers, chocolate, and a romantic dinner. So often, we get wrapped up in this stereotype and lose sight of the opportunity to create some truly special memories.

You may already be planning this special day, or you may be totally clueless on where to start, but regardless, I am here to help you ensure this Valentine’s Day is like no other. Not to mention, my birthday is on Valentine's Day, so you know I’m a pro when it comes to making this occasion extra special!

The ultimate goal for any great Valentine's Day plan is to leave you and your partner feeling connected, and nothing facilitates connection like an unforgettable, shared experience. Here are some of my favorites. You won’t find the typical date-night lineup here!

Hot Air Balloon Ride

For those looking to do something exciting and out of the box this Valentine’s Day, a hot air balloon ride is a great way to spend quality time together while getting an amazing thrill. Balloon Over Miami does hot air balloon rides in Miami and South Florida. This is a great adventure to enjoy alongside some magical views. An experience like this will not be forgotten, and you will be stunned by being able to see the beauty of South Florida from such a different perspective. This idea will definitely blow your significant other away!

Spa Experience

Spa days are intimate, romantic, and relaxing, and what’s more romantic than enjoying one with your loved one? I mean, what busy, working couple couldn’t use some time to unwind and de-stress? My advice when planning your spa day: trade in your standard massage and facial to explore some new treatments or enhanced experiences.

The Standard Spa is located in the The Standard Hotel in Miami Beach. They have special Valentine’s Day packages to ensure an extra special experience. My favorite package is the “Couples K.I.S.S.” It begins in the Hamam to warm-up. Then, it’s followed by a 60 minute couples massage and finishes off with a Turkish Hamam Rub & Scrub.

Another favorite spa day destination of mine is Eau Spa located in Palm Beach. Talk about an experience- the Eau Spa offers a variety of different scents, color therapy, music, and more to personalize their robust menu of treatments. Sip on a delicious glass of champagne and you’re in for the best spa day of your life!

Food Tour

If you’re looking for something creative, fun, and delicious, a culinary tour is the way to go. Miami Culinary Tours is the #1 rated small group foodie tour in Miami. This is a great way to learn more about different cultures and their foods, as well as experience the vibrant culinary scene in our own backyard..

They have various options for food tasting tours. Their Little Havana food tour is so amazing. It is a 2.5 hour walking tour where you get to learn about the culture while trying delicious foods and drinks. One of my favorite parts about these tours is that they are in small groups so you get a more intimate experience while meeting some new people. A food tour is the perfect surprise for your significant other, especially if they are a foodie like me!

Wine Tasting

Calling all wine lovers! Miami Design District is having a Valentine’s Day Wine Tasting at Abaco Wines. After indulging in some complementary Schramsberg sparkling wine and Miami’s Romanicos truffles, save some time for a cultural stroll through the district where you and your partner can enjoy art in all forms, from sculptures and installations, to outdoor murals and fashion showrooms. It’s the perfect way to work up an appetite before a romantic meal!

Not Your Average Dinner

While these suggestions make for some truly memorable Valentine’s Day experiences, sometimes the extraordinary can be found in the simplicity of great company… and great food. A little ambiance doesn’t hurt either.  For all that and more, consider these locations when making your reservations!

Shooters Waterfront, located in Fort Lauderdale, will  make you feel as if you are in the Caribbean with its gorgeous dockside views (best at sunset), fresh seafood, and live music.

For dinner and a show, head to Miami’s reigning hotspot, Chica Nights! Here you’ll find vibrant flavors and provocative live performances. The perfect playful spot if you want to spice things up.

If you know me, you know I adore Italian food. Pasta And is an authentic Northern Italian restaurant located in unassuming Margate. While they have the standard variety of delicious and flavorful Italian dishes accompanied by an extensive wine collection, nothing compares to their homemade, fresh pasta, which is made in-house daily. It’s simply outstanding.

Pasta And is a family business and everyone who walks into this restaurant is treated like part of the family, with a level of service that is second to none. The servers are very attentive to your needs and are always checking in, as is the owner. His passion for food and wine is evident in every part of the experience. I absolutely adore this hidden gem and couldn’t recommend it more for a charming and romantic meal.

I hope that these suggestions have helped you to start planning a memorable experience with your significant other for Valentine’s Day. Or at least sparked some inspiration for creating your own unique celebration of love!
