We set goals in work and life- let’s talk about setting some fashion goals.

Fashion is a powerful tool that reflects our unique personalities, celebrates our self-love, and draws inspiration from the admirable qualities of others. It’s a form of self-expression and self-confidence. And just as we evolve through the years, so too should our fashion. Let’s explore what changes to make, what to hold onto, what you admire in others, what to let go of, and where to invest for a 2024 style that’s aligned with a 2024 you!

  1. Experiment with Colors: Start by incorporating new colors into your wardrobe. Experiment with shades that you haven't worn before, and step out of your comfort zone. If you usually stick to neutral tones, try adding some vibrant hues and pops of color to your outfits. Embracing a broader color palette can breathe new life into your style. You’ll be surprised how you will feel, and how many people will notice!
  1. Edit Your Wardrobe: Take a critical (maybe harsh?) look at your existing wardrobe. When thinking about what to ditch, consider outdated pieces, uncomfortable clothing, and items that you no longer wear- purge whatever doesn’t mesh with your evolving sense of style. Donate or sell these pieces to make room for new additions that better represent your fashion voice for 2024.
  1. Adopt Sustainable Fashion: Make a conscious effort to embrace sustainable fashion practices. Invest in high-quality, timeless pieces that are eco-friendly and ethically produced. This change not only benefits the environment but also makes you feel good about your choices and overall, elevates your fashion sense. Look to those who champion sustainable fashion. Their commitment to responsible fashion can help you to make more mindful choices.
  1. Experiment with Silhouettes: Don't be afraid to experiment with different silhouettes. If you've always stuck to one particular style, like skinny jeans and fitted tops, try wide-leg pants, flowy dresses, or oversized blazers. Playing with silhouettes can add variety and depth to your wardrobe. If you have a wardrobe full of floral dresses, try solids or stripes this time around. As we get older our tastes change and you might be pleasantly surprised that your new favorite go-to is right around the corner!
  1. Accessorize Creatively: Accessories can transform an outfit. Invest in unique accessories like statement earrings, bold scarves, or eye-catching belts. These items can elevate even the simplest of outfits and allow you to express your personality without taking too deep of a dive out of your comfort zone. Accessories come in all budgets so explore those that fit into your budget and your life.
  1. Embrace Body Positivity: It’s time to embrace and celebrate your body just the way it is. Confidence is the best accessory, and when you love the skin you’re in, it shines through in your fashion choices. Ironically, loving what you wear can also help you feel good about yourself and how you look. While there may be styles that are more flattering to some body types, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to this so if there’s a trend you love- go for it! If you think that bold prints or some cuts are too much for your bod, think again. If you need a little help, consider going to a store like Bloomingdales or Nordstrom who have stylists on site who can work with you to bring your fashion vision to life!
  1. Embrace Your Individuality: Recognize that your uniqueness is your greatest asset. Don't try to conform to societal standards; instead, let your style reflect your individuality. Your quirks, interests, and passions can inspire your fashion choices. For example, if you love moto jackets and combat boots, try wearing one over your dress with the boots for an edgy work look. If you have always wanted to dye your hair blue, try a streak of blue hair across your face and see how you like it. Have fun, and be you! Pay attention to others who take fashion risks. Whether it's experimenting with bold colors, mixing patterns, or trying unconventional pairings, their fearlessness can inspire you to be bold in your self-expression.
  1. Seek Inspiration: What Do You Admire in Others? Imitation is the best form of flattery! Take inspiration from people who have a well-defined personal style. Pay attention to those who have a knack for putting together outfits that are a true reflection of their personality. It's not about copying them but learning how to develop your own unique style interpretation. This could be someone famous like Jennifer Aniston or your best friend or co-worker. Use this person as a guide to what you might want to try or buy!
  1. Be Fearless: Pay attention to individuals who are unafraid to take fashion risks. Whether it's experimenting with bold colors, mixing patterns, or trying unconventional pairings, their fearlessness can inspire you to step out of your comfort zone.
  1. Invest: Reduce your reliance on fast fashion. These mass-produced, cheap garments contribute to environmental issues and often lack quality and longevity. Instead, invest in pieces that have a more significant impact on your style and a timelessness that can evolve with you. Consider investing in quality basics like well-fitting denim, versatile blazers,  leather booties , or classic pumps. These are foundational pieces that can form the basis of many chic looks to come. Consider investing in the times classics like a classic trench coat, a leather jacket, or a little black dress. When it comes to fashion investments, tailored pieces are always a smart choice. Tailoring refers to a fit perfectly measured for you- the proper length and width across shoulders, waist, etc.  Tailoring can significantly elevate your look and enhance your overall style.

Developing a new fashion style for 2024 does not have to be scary or stressful. It should be a fun and exciting journey of self-discovery and self-expression. This is an opportunity to shed the old, embrace the new, and celebrate your unique self. Remember to admire the qualities in others that inspire you, love and accept yourself, and make conscious choices that align with the values you set for yourself and for the year. Make 2024 your year of style evolution!
